Single homeless people and anyone who needs support in maintaining their current housing.

We never disclose actual details about our real guests, but the following are typical of some of those who arrive on our doorstep:

From a teenage girl who had not used our services before:

“I have been at Open Door about 3 weeks and the staff are friendly and helpful, the only thing I don’t like is getting up at 7am! But the food is nice and the house has a friendly atmosphere. I’d recommend it to anyone that is homeless and needs somewhere to stay. And since staying here the staff have helped me get into a hostel called Young Peoples Services in Hemel. Siobhan”

From a gentleman in his early thirties who has used our services several times:

“Volunteers. The people at Open Door, appreciate the free time and service you provide for us. Its always a pleasure to see happy cheerful people, especially the ones that can cook as well. After walking the streets all day we tend to be famished by 8pm!
So, what am I up to after my 28 days? It’s a hotel for me, ‘live in’ work and the hotel has 2 rosettes!! So I’ll still be eating good food, but will the service be as unique as the volunteers here provide?”

From a young man in his late twenties, who accessed our services once before, last summer:

“Open Door is very helpful in lots of ways. It has helpt me to get off of the street’s and helping me in other way’s too. Like sorting out all of my problem’s ie, money, probation, doctor’s, and also clothing”

From a man in his mid thirties who uses the Drop In and has stayed at the Night Shelter in 2004 and 2007:
“When I arrived at Open Door I was worried what it would be like as it was all new to me. Once the feeling of not knowing the staff helped me with any problems I had (like housing forms etc). I would recommend anyone needing help to turn to OPEN DOOR as they are there to help.
They found me a place in Watford. Now I am much happier person in myself once again. Thank you to all the staff at Open Door.”
